Playing the ukulele can be easy and fun and to enhance that experience here are some tips:
The ukulele will not be in tune when you take it out of its carton due to shipping and other factors.
This YouTube video will guide you through the tuning process. I recommend using the video for the first tuning as it may be easier than trying to take a very out of tune instrument and tune it with only the electronic tuner. The video will give you the actual sound of each individual string and you just match the string to that tone.
Using the electronic tuner:
1)Attach the tuner to the head of the ukulele and swivel it to the correct position for easy viewing.
2) Push the button below the face and hold until the tuner comes on.
3) You must now select the correct tuner position for the soprano ukulele. The small illuminated indicator must read Uc at the bottom of the dial. Push the button until the Uc becomes illuminated.
4) Pluck the bottom string (the one on the top closest to your face) and using the tuning key, tighten or loosen it until the tuner indicates the note G and the dial is green with the arrow in the dead center. It will also indicate the number of the string on the dial. Continue with the other three strings.
It will require a little time before the ukulele stays in tune due to the stretching of the nylon strings. You can pull on the strings as you tune them to help stretch them faster. Don’t be discouraged. The instrument will soon hold its tuning.
Don’t expose the ukulele to extreme heat or cold to prevent warping or cracking of the body.
To keep your instrument looking like new simply wipe with a soft cloth.
You can also use furniture polish or a special polish sold at musical instrument retailers.
